Welcome to MYFA

Dear Parents, Players, Families and Friends,

Welcome to our 44th year of Metro Youth Football Association youth football programming.  Metro Youth Football Association is very proud and honored to have you participate in our youth football programs.  We are excited to share several new additions at MYFA.

NEW FIELDS:  Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation in a partnership with Metro Youth Football Association are in the process of constructing (2) new football fields on the grounds of the TUMA Soccer complex.  The new fields will be crowned, irrigated and ready for play in 2014.

NEW PARTNERSHIP: Metro Youth Football Association is now a Pilot Program for USA Football.  There are many benefits to this new partnership including a certification program for all MYFA head coaches and lead assistants, Heads Up tackling training, additional insurance coverage for coaches and stringent background checks for all Board members, head coaches and assistant coaches.

NEW PROGRAM:  A 7 v 7 Passing Tournament took place on the MYFA fields this summer.  We offered this fun and exciting touch football program to 9th – 10th grade, 7th – 8th grade and 5th – 6th grade teams throughout Eastern Iowa.  NEW IN 2014:  We are offering 7 v 7 Passing League to 5th and 6th graders this spring which will run with our current flag program.

SPRING FLAG FOOTBALL:  1,100 Flag football participants in grades 1st to 4th enjoy our successful spring program.  Practice twice a week with a 6 game schedule starting in March.

FALL TACKLE FOOTBALL:  47 teams from 9 area school districts played in the MYFA tackle football program in 2013.  MYFA emphasizes participation, education and safety.

FUNDRAISING:  MYFA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization run by a dedicated group of volunteers.  Fundraising is very important to our success.  Thank you for your participation in our spring and fall fundraisers each year.

VOLUNTEERS:  To the most dedicated group of volunteers I have ever had the privilege of serving with….THANK YOU!  Our Executive Board consists of (9) members and our General Board consists of (14) members.  Both Boards meet on a regular basis with the goal of making your experience with MYFA the best possible.  EXECUTIVE BOARD:  Eric Martin, Louie Ervin, Kevin Albers, Gary Braksiek, Roger Gruwell, Brian Burrell, Jim Thompson, Jeff Blackford and Jim Angstman.  GENERAL BOARD:  Roger Gruwell, Gary Braksiek, Chad Guenther, Brian Burrell, Freddie Northern, Jim Thompson, James Franta, Tim Crile, Jeff Hilleman, Doug Verge, Adam Neal, Scott Shaw, Steve Bohr and Jim Angstman.

Fund Raising Update
Hello MYFA families,

We have decided to have the last and final turn in day for the fundraiser be Sunday, April 27th. There will be no other times to turn in because of the time crunch we are under to get the prizes and products in before the season ends. The good news accompanying the turn in date change is that Easter is the weekend in between and a prime fundraising time.

Please turn in your packets to your head coach or team mom at the beginning of the game on the 27th, and they will bring the whole team's fundraising packets to the garage on the NW side of the complex.

If you are a 7 on 7 flag family, please note that we have changed the pizza delivery date to be on May 10th now. This is also the day prizes will be handed out.

If you are a 3rd and 4th grade flag family, please get all cards and money turned in by the 27th. Even if no cards are sold, they need to be turned in to your coach. This has been a great fundraiser for us and we would like to keep it, so please make sure all the Casey's cards are turned in.

Thanks,

Brian Burrell
